As a hobby of mine, I have Madagascar giant day geckos living at my place. I have them for three years now, and I though that they could have a new home. Combined with my interest in 1-wire techniques and Raspberry PI, I started to make a new terrarium that is completely automated. That way, I am sure that the animals will get enough light and heating as enough water spraying for the humidity.
There are already existing solutions, but those are a bit expensive, and it is much more fun to make your own system! Also it was a great way to learn better Python programming. And some Java-scripting / Ajax coding.
In the following pages I will show how the terrarium is build, which techniques is being used, and what hardware is needed.
